LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, Ark. — Senior Airman David Deutsh checks the intake of a C-130 Hercules J-model aircraft’s propeller during a preflight inspection. Six Guard, Reserve and active-duty flying units are participating in a monthlong procedures, development and evaluation test of the C-130J. USAF LC-130 arriving at Warbirds Over Wanaka 2010. This aircraft was on static display. At the end of the Antarctic season the aircraft stayed behind in Christchurch and was completely stripped to bare metal and repainted at Air New Zealand so that it would look in top shape fr its appearance at WOW.

Notes: The LC-130 is the ski-equipped version of the Hercules. During the summer these aircraft are based in Antarctica, where they support the mission of the US National Science Foundation.

Capt. Trent Gilmore, 746th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron C-130 Hercules pilot, flies an air transport mission in support of Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa. Sendai Airport: A U.S. Air Force MC-130H Combat Talon II aircraft lands in Sendai, Japan on March 16, 2011. This is the first fixed-wing aircraft to land at the airport since a 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami crippled much of the Japanese eastern seaboard March 11, 2011. A team of specialists from the 320th Special Tactics Squadron out of Kadena Air Base, along with Japanese emergency management organizations, cleared a section of the runway and re-established control tower capabilities, enabling direct flights in and out of the airfield. Levi Denham, a WC-130J Hercules aircraft weather reconnaissance loadmaster assigned to the 53rd Reconnaissance Squadron, performs pre-engine start-up inspections in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, on Sept. 16, 2010. Known as the Hurricane Hunters, the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron’s mission is to provide surveillance of tropical storms and hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico and the central Pacific Ocean for the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
